The Friends of the Humanities will offer a “Books and Films” course, “Harper Lee: Myth and Reality”, beginning in January.
The class will be taught by Dr. Mary Ann Wilson, professor of English at the 鶹ҹ. Wilson’s areas of expertise are 19th- and 20th-century American literature, Southern literature and women’s studies.
Classes will meet on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Griffin Hall, Room 201, on the 鶹ҹ campus, starting Jan. 13, 2016. The last class will be held Feb. 17. The cost is $75 for Friends of the Humanities members and $100 for others.
Students will read Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird” and “Go Set a Watchman.” Readings will be enhanced by Mark Childress’ essays, “Looking for Harper Lee”; PBS Masterpiece documentary “Harper Lee: Hey Boo”; film clips; and other relevant materials. There will be no tests for this course.

Friends of the Humanities was established in 1989 as a non-profit group dedicated to enhancing the role of the interdisciplinary humanities at 鶹ҹ and in Acadiana, providing support to the College of the Arts and the College of Liberal Arts, and strengthening the resources of the 鶹ҹ’s humanities program.
